How to Keep Your Audience Engaged in a Virtual Training Session

As the virtual mode of instruction does not offer any room for face-to-face interaction, attendees are not always actively engaged in the process. Many a times, they remain silent and the entire process becomes ineffective. However, as a training organizer, you have to overcome their silence and keep them engaged, so that they can take out the best from the training sessions. Here, we have come up with some important points that might help you to keep your students engaged. Don't Force Your Students to Listen Keep in mind that you cannot put your participants under the contractual obligation to listen to you. They are attending your session out of their own needs. Pushing them too hard to listen to you won't make anything fruitful. Rather, to attract your potential attendees and to keep them engaged, you can create interesting course content and deliver the instruction in the most informative way. Assume that Attendees are Multitasking Do not expect your audience to hang on every word delivered by the instructor through a virtual platform. Your participants may be reading their latest sales report or answering e-mails, while listening to the training. Remember that you are not getting undivided attention from them. Hence, you need to connect with your prospective attendees, motivate them out of their other works, and draw them into your virtual instruction. If you are successful to motivate them, you can attract attendees in large numbers within a short span of time. Keep in mind that communicating with your attendees will help them to interact with you. Many People will Hide if They Can Do you remember the elementary school where a few quiet kids sit in the last benches, so that they can hide from the teacher? The situation is almost same in the virtual mode of training as well. There are many students, who just prefer to be a silent observer and refrain from interacting with fellow participants as well as the instructors. However, you can make your virtual instruction relevant, economical, interactive, dynamic, and more enjoyable to keep your audience engaged. For example, you can come up with some innovative ideas, such as sending private notes to each attendee asking them for their valuable opinion. However, keep in mind that you should not try too hard to draw out a specific participant. This will pull back majority of your prospective audience, which will affect your ROI negatively.

Breaking the Barrier: EMT Online Training Now Possible

EMTs or emergency medical technicians are often confused with paramedics. To differentiate, paramedics have more advanced skills and education as compared with EMTs, though they do belong in the similar medical occupation. To be an EMT means to be strong both physically and emotionally. Some patients cannot be saved and this is what an EMT has to accept, making the demanding job an even harder one. After a few years on the job, one will realize that being an EMT is not at all that easy. This is what makes an EMT a person to look up to - to idolize someone who has the strength to not only be physically fit but emotionally strong too. Injured soldiers during the Civil War are to ambulance teams as medical emergency technicians are to wounded patients. United by the goal to save lives, the medical emergency services was borne through the efforts of various businesses who worked closely to help the injured community. From JFK to Lyndon Johnson, initiatives were put into place to formalize and determine the EMS program which in turn, gave birth to EMTs, paramedics, and other related careers. As emergency medical technicians remain to be recognized as part of the medical team, more and more people enter this part to fulfill their dreams of saving lives, helping the injured, and assisting the elderly. For those employed as Medical Emergency Technicians, they continue enrolling in advanced courses to receive higher degrees while some still prefer to work voluntarily. As the industry continues to grow, Emergency Medical Technicians are expected to rise to 14,800 in 2014 - a total growth projection of 26.5% - according to a report released by the Labor Market Information Division, as seen in EMTAdvice.com's site. To add to this, roughly 43,000 EMTs work in California alone - as stated by the Emergency Medical Services Authority. Now that there is a growing demand for Emergency Medical Technicians, this estimate is predicted to rise in the future. Not everybody can be physically in attendance during EMT training as some hopeful EMTs are too busy with other activities and jobs. Ideal for those who cannot go to universities to get their EMT certificates, Emergency Medical Technician training online is now being offered by reputable emergency medical services companies. Because of the convenience it offers, it is easy to assume that training to become an Emergency Medical Technician through the Internet is easy but the truth is, classes are just as difficult as those in universities. EMS companies provide reading materials and hand out exams to check out the knowledge of students.

Could More Accessible Part Time Courses Make UK University Numbers Rise Again?

At the end of January, reports of a decline in UK university students began to emerge. On the 29th, a story by the BBC stated that, 'The number of British students at UK universities has fallen for the first time in recent history...from 1.97 million in 2007 to 1.96 million last year,' despite a rise in the amount of international students enrolling. So how can universities turn the tables back and make our lecture halls more appealing to home-grown academics of the future? As the BBC highlights, the major contributing factor to the fall comes from the figures for students studying part-time. Between 2007 and 2008, the number for the overall UK fell by three percent, with the biggest decline in Wales (nine percent). This promptly caused the Shadow Innovation, Universities and Skills Secretary, David Willets, to criticize the "raw deal" offered to students who want to study part-time. In Scotland, where numbers of part-time students have fallen by three percent, there are further reasons as to why this problem needs to be addressed. Today (February 9th) The Sunday Herald reported that Scottish universities could stand to lose '£50 million a year if Westminster insists on tough new visa rules for international students, according to several influential educational bodies and senior university officials.' The proposals mean that student visas will last a maximum of four years, and will need to be renewed if the course exceeds this time limit (for example, the duration of a course in Medicine tends to last five years). Both these problems seem to suggest that a focus on accessibility for part-time and long distance students might be needed. In the first case, the very nature of e-learning or online education lends itself very well to students who wish to study part-time. Most notably, it is the ease by which students can plan to work when they want to without the need of having to attend lectures in a traditional lecture theatre, that is the biggest pull factor. For Scotland, if the government's Visa plans go through, now seems like the perfect time to adapt and perfect their e-learning options for students from other countries. It seems that one of the methods to maintain the growth of international students that the UK is already seeing, might be by assuring them that online study is as worthwhile as traditional learning. Then, one would hope, the appeal of already renowned Scottish institutions would not be diminished by a misplaced distrust of new technologies.

Pros and Cons of Getting a Distance Learning Degree

In this competitive working environment, getting a distance learning degree may be the additional edge you need in your resume to get you that interview you need. Many people in mid career find that this is an affordable way to learn a new skill, improve their credentials, or simply to increase their future earning potential. The good news is that with some research and advice from friends, you can find the right kind of program that fits your professional ambition and your budget. There are many areas of interest available when it comes to pursuing a distance learning degree. Business administration may be the most popular, but specialized degrees like accounting, computer science, computer programming, environmental technology, food technology, and languages are quickly gaining ground. The major advantages for pursuing this mode of education is the flexibility in timing. Because courses are conducted online, students can submit assignments, make queries, take tests and attend virtual lectures literally anytime and anywhere. This arrangement makes it ideal for those who need to keep a full time job or are committed to taking care of a family. These people can therefore plan their school work around their life and commit to classes or finalize assignments at night or on weekends. Many companies today acknowledge the advantages of this education setup because their employees will be valuable assets to the company with their newfound skills. In many cases, a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) can accelerate a current position to a management level position which usually increases the earning potential exponentially. In fact, some companies are so impressed with employees who have undertaken this degree mode and made significant contributions thereafter that the companies are willing to sponsor the cost of the degree. The downside of a distance learning degree is that there is little or no interaction among fellow students. This limits the potential of the students to make new friends or to create business contacts. Interaction among students and faculty is also highly limited, and this can be frustrating for students who thrive on active dialogues and discussions. Another downside is the fact that there are a limited number of scholarships or grants (if at all) available for distance learning degrees. This can be difficult for people who are not financially equipped. Having said all that, learning a new skill is always a good idea. If you are financially capable to do so, getting a distance learning degree is truly an investment that everyone should think about making.

Cyber Environment For Online Learning

There are many students who desire for an online learning environment for its great advantageous features. Millions of students happily get enrolled in schools and universities that provide them the online facility. This system is liked by many due to the varied benefits that it offers. It gives a facility to the students to attend a particular course from anywhere they reside. This gives a convenience to the parents of little children to look after their kids. Kids can learn at home rather sitting in the classrooms. Students who use to work may also attend the classes irrespective of their working schedules. Young executives who use to travel, in order to attend business meetings or for pleasure, can also access to these classes from any part of the world but with the support of the internet. Online learning supports approaches that provide student-centered teaching. It is so because every student learns in his or her own way. Some learn by doing things practically while others just learn once they view the material. The materials of the course are accessible all through the week, 24 hours a day. One gets the platform to read and re-read the comments, explanations, lectures and discussions as and when they want irrespective of any time barrier. It happens many times that in the classroom the spoken material is not attentively listened due to the varied distractions, tiredness, missed classes and boredom. All these issues are aptly addressed when classes are arranged through online mode. Attendance in the online mode of learning is evident only when a student takes part in the discussions held in the classroom. This in turn increases the student interaction and also the diversity of the opinion, as each and every individual gets a chance to put forward his or her views and discussions are not restricted to the ones who talk the most. The instructors who provide lectures online have a lot of practical knowledge and may belong to any part of the world. Students get a chance of gaining more knowledge that one can't find in books and they get an idea about the way concepts are applied in the situations promoting practical knowledge. This type of learning offers better contact between the instructors and the students.

Online Career Training Possibilities

Everyone has passions and interests that they can use in today's society. Advancements in technology are now allowing individuals to use their passions to gain a degree online. Online training can have students gaining a degree in virtually every sector of the professional industry. Numerous online schools and colleges offer degree programs that will fit any passion and career goal to prepare the dedicated student for the professional workplace. Online career training offers a vast range of possibilities for students who are unable to attend a traditional college. Students are able to create their own schedule and work through a class at their own pace. This is highly beneficial if a student requires more time completing a course. Without the hassle of commuting to a campus every day students can earn their degree from the comfort of their own home. Online degree programs are available in game design, business, physical therapy, health care, and more. Prospective students can earn anywhere from an associate's degree to a PhD in a respected field. The level of degree programs offered directly coincide with the subject of study, meaning that some subjects like business will offer a PhD in the field, while other fields will only offer up to a master's degree. Online education is highly beneficial for individuals who may have a hard time keeping up with the pace of their professors. The benefit of online training is that students can listen to or read lesson notes many times over in order to fully comprehend the coursework. This can be extremely helpful to students who may have a disability or just prefer to take extra time on their coursework. There are many positives to attending school online, but for some people earning a degree through this type of program may hinder them rather than help them. Students who need one on one instruction or help with a subject may not receive the personal attention they desire from their instructor. However, online programs do provide a network for students to read blogs, chat with other students, and ask for help directly from their instructors through e-mail. Students who are lacking in computer skills may find online courses difficult to navigate. Without adequate computer skills figuring out the program to retrieve lecture notes and upload assignments may be more difficult for some people than the actual coursework. Lastly, if a student is known to procrastinate, an online degree program may not be the right fit. There are few deadlines and procrastinators may find it extremely easy not to do the homework. Many training options are available online for students dedicated to earning their education. Take into consideration the pros and cons of an online program before deciding if online learning is right for you. Don't let your passions or responsibilities stop you from obtaining your degree. Search out accredited online training programs that fit your career goals and begin the steps to enrollment today. Evolving With Learning

Learning has, overt the years, made considerable advances in terms of methodology, practice, and implementation. This is because humans are basically in a constant state of learning throughout their lives, absorbing knowledge, stimuli, and other sensory input, storing the experience in their memory, then processing it into useful knowledge. Leaps in innovations and various forms of technology, have also allowed various innovations in the way that people acquire the needed learning. While the most common remains the classroom-type approach wherein there is a teacher/instructor, there have been other methods that were developed to primarily answer the need of those who do not function well in a classroom environment, or are not able to participate in learning through a classroom environment, such as those limited by physical disability, distance, and even profession. One of the most effective methods in learning that has been widely used by numerous people, even entire corporations for business and commercial applications, is e learning. E learning has become even more accepted and utilized because of the fact that it allows people to continue learning even beyond the age barrier typically established by most societies on learning. By taking the entire process of academic learning out of the classroom situation and into an environment that may prove to be more comfortable and less prejudiced, even elderly people still seeking to attain a degree or the equivalent of degree course may do so, whether for purposes requiring the equivalent of a college degree course, or for the personal gratification of having the equivalent of a graduate course. E learning has also provided a very convenient and effective method of delivering skill and knowledge upgrades for the employees of major corporations and institutions in statistically less time with better results as compared to that of previous training efforts without the benefit of e learning. This is because of the fact that the e learning methods of today are actually a composite of several training and learning methods that have been established as being able to deliver the most knowledge in the least amount of time and yet afford people greater retention of what is learned: Personalized private lessons - otherwise known as tutorial sessions, are among the most common forms of learning used by students, and to some extent, adults in their pursuit of knowledge. Being a form of individualized instruction wherein the learner is focused simply on the lesson at hand and nothing else, it is quite effective, thus making the delivery worth emulating in e learning. Recreations of situation - also known as simulations, primarily used in technical applications and situations wherein muscle memory is relevant, it is equally effective when integrated into the entire e learning approach. A simulation is a good way to enhance muscle memory by direct application of the knowledge. Electronic learning management systems - initially developed as an electronic procedure to electronically track and evaluate a person's need for additional knowledge or skills through a series of tests, this eventually became the backbone of e learning, making use of its very convenient platform.

Are Online Courses Ideal for Everyone?

Going back to school is a big decision. Whether you are considering getting a bachelor's degree, master's degree or a doctoral degree; school involves a lot of hard work and a lot of money. Many students returning to school contemplate attending a traditional campus or enrolling into an online degree program. Some schools offer both. There are some pros and cons to both online and classroom based programs. The student must decide what's most important to them when looking at different programs. Do they want the most flexible program? Or is cost the main factor they are considering? There are a lot of options out there, so the student must take their time and analyze each. Online courses are typically more flexible for students than attending a lecture on campus. Most online courses are asynchronous, but have due dates on assignments each week. This is beneficial to most students, but if a student prefers to listen to a live lecture and be able to ask questions then a classroom setting is probably optimal. With that being said, online courses are not for everyone. If the student is a visual learner they would probably prefer on campus classes. Campus based programs require the student to be in a classroom at least once a week. Online courses on the other hand, will not notify you to be online to complete your work. The student is accountable for their own work and logging in the virtual classroom each week. The content a student learns in a campus program as opposed to an online class can also differ. Most online courses are more reading and writing based. This is perfect for someone who does not like taking exams. But, on the other hand if the online student doesn't like group work with no face-to-face interaction there is a problem. Group work online is typically done through chat rooms, Skype or email. Students are typically thousands of miles away from each other and meeting in person is not an option. This is definitely a downfall to taking online classes. Though online courses are becoming more and more popular, there are some negative aspects to them. When deciding what the best program is for you, make sure to take everything into consideration. How flexible is the program? How many hours a week do you have to commit to per class? How fast can you graduate? What is the tuition difference between online courses and on ground courses? These are just a few.

Maths For Kids (1 of 3) - The Relevance Of School Maths To The Real World

The origin of mathematical thought lie in the concepts of number, magnitude and form; a way to quantify and make some sense of a confusing world. Such concepts would have been part of everyday life of hunter-gatherer societies where social organisation and the ability to count and compare would place them at a survival advantage. The modern world offers its own set of challenges yet being able to quantify and compare objects and concepts is still an essential component for efficient living and making the right choices. It can be hard for students to imagine how learning algebra and geometry can help in the real world, yet this fact is rarely highlighted in instruction because mathematics is invariably taught as a 'theoretical' subject. Use of mathematics in everyday life can be divided in to domestic tasks and those revolving around work. In a domestic situation, mathematics revolve round basic calculations involving managing finances, measuring and estimating areas for DIY projects; scaling up or down recipe proportion quantities; or ensuring the correct change is received after a transaction. The more complex domestic mathematical problem solving concerns percentages such as working out the portion on sale reductions; looking for a good deal for a loan or credit card; or working out how much interest is due in a savings account. In the professional world the level of mathematics can depend on the nature of the work, and its application is crucial because that can be the difference between success and failure. Accountancy is a series of mathematical calculations to show the health of a business involving profit and loss, an inherent nature of all businesses and will show how much tax the business will owe at the end of the financial year. Many jobs by their nature have a strong mathematical emphasis, such as quantity surveying, architecture, planning and computer programming. Virtually all scientific jobs such as physics, astronomy and engineering use advanced maths to test models and predict outcomes of experiments. In even deeper scientific fields, such as cosmology and quantum mechanics, complex mathematics takes on a life of its own. In this esoteric field, teams of scientists from Einstein onwards have strived to find answers to the most fundamental questions of nature, such as 'how did the universe start?' Mathematical education benefits all who receive instruction, irrespective of how much they will apply those tools in real life. Mathematics is a very logical science - some would argue an art. The clear thinking required to solve problems in maths helps train the mind, giving it deeper tools of analytical thinking which helps all of us sort out myriad daily decisions later in life. This is all the more true today with the universal availability of calculators, computers and mobile phones. Yet, the world still throws challenges: not least is the problem of dealing with these new electronic devices and understanding their logical way of menus, options and controls. The next in this series of articles will deal with mental arithmetic games and their uses in our daily lives.

Different Types of Distance Education

If you are wanting to return to college to finish your degree, you may feel that you cannot commit to a college program that requires you to meet on campus at a particular place and time. Many working adults have other family and professional obligations that hinder them returning to college. Thankfully, there are many different types of distance education programs currently available. Distance education is divided into two different overarching categories, asynchronous and synchronous. Synchronous instruction requires that all students participate at the same time. The method of delivery is usually interactive and includes telecourses, teleconferences, web conferencing, and internet chat sessions. This mode of distance learning instruction is far less flexible than asynchronous because it requires students to be online at a specific time. Asynchronous is far more flexible because this mode of instruction does not require simultaneous participation by all students in the class. These modes of instruction give students the freedom to interact with the material and instructor at a time that is convenient for them. However, the one drawback is that students are responsible for their own motivation in getting the work down. Some examples of asynchronous distance learning include online courses, videotaped courses, and correspondence courses. These tend to be more popular among students who are also working professionals. Due to the upgrades in computer technology and the easy access to the web, online courses have continued to grow in popularity and are now the most popular out of all of the distance education formats. According to a report issued by the Sloan Foundation, online programs continue to grow at a rate of 10 to 15 percent each year. With online programs, students have a digital classroom they can access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They will typically have discussion board postings, readings, and assignments that must be done by a particular day of the week. Correspondence courses differ slightly from online courses in the fact that they provide the student with even more flexibility in their program. Students use printed material that is often supplemented with audio or videotapes. Lesson plans and study guides are provided to the student and they can submit their assignments at any time during the course. Courses typically have a time limit associated with them. Some may be as long as a year to complete a course. Distance education is a great way for adults to start or complete their degree. There are many programs to choose from. Many are currently enrolling!
