Electrical Online Training for Electricians and Trainees

Keeping up to date with the latest developments in the electrical world is vital for modern electricians but it can sometimes be difficult to find time to attend courses and lectures. A good solution to this problem is to use the internet for 'online electrical training' which can be a cost effective and time efficient way of learning at home. 'Self-Study' or 'Home Study' courses have been around for a long time and are often used by university and college students as a form of distance learning. Using the internet to view training videos and download study documents is simply a progression of this process. Because the internet is so easy to access, many organizations are now finding online training an extremely useful medium for publishing videos and technical details for their students. As an electrician myself, I have found that online lectures and technical guides are very useful for staying informed and filling in the gaps in my knowledge. Training websites can be an excellent source of up to date technical information relevant to modern electricians. The material is normally presented in the form of videos which often makes learning easier than studying books or manuals. Online electrical training can be an ideal learning solution for electricians, apprentices and trainees who are studying Electrical Installation and the IET Wiring Regulations. Subscription based websites that offer online training modules are a good way of enabling flexible learning without the need to attend seminars and lectures and can be relatively inexpensive. They can prove useful for busy electricians who need to find out about amendments to the the wiring regulations or new technology such as Solar PV. Apart from being able to access course information 24/7, one of the main benefits of learning online is that students can progress at their own pace and re-visit various parts of a module as required, which isn't always possible in a classroom situation. The learning process can be further enhanced where the trainee is tested on the learning material using mock exams, quizzes and assessments. These tests also can be very useful for targeting areas of revision and consolidating knowledge before NVQ or City and Guilds electrical exams. Some electrical training providers present online video training for learning basic practical skills such as preparing and terminating cables and others offer full wiring regulation courses which can include an examination and and Part P assessment. Although online study can never be a substitute for 'hands on' practical training I think that it will become more vital to electricians as they try to keep abreast of new technology and further amendments to wiring regulations which are changing at an ever increasing pace.
